Laura Nicholson is a Fine Artist who was raised in Ledbury, Herefordshire and after some 20 years away from the county, now lives in Colwall. After studying Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire, she went on to read Art History at the University of Manchester before completing a PGCE in Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. Laura and her family have been living in Adelaide Australia since 2011 where she began her career as a Fine Artist and Illustrator. Laura works from her studio, a converted Victorian stable at the end of her garden. She describes herself as a seasonal artist, preoccupied with vibrant colour, shape and mark making whilst using a variety of mediums from acrylic ink and gouache to oils. Since graduating, her artistic practice has been influenced by the Impressionists and Renaissance artists, namely Monet, Cassatt, Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileschi.
Laura paints onto a variety of surfaces, mostly gravitating towards heavy cold-pressed watercolour and cartridge papers. Laura also has a keen interest in Intaglio printing, etching and hand printing before working into prints with inks. Laura’s studio welcomes visitors all year round, giving an insight into her daily practice and inspiration.
