Pearl and Silver Jewellery
Janis works mainly in silver producing a range of jewellery and small-ware: spoons, thimbles and book-marks. She particularly enjoys making unusual chain necklaces and bracelets often incorporating semi-precious beads and pearls. She also offers a professional bead and pearl threading/knotting service, and is available for talks and tuition in bead and pearl threading. Janis has previously run courses for the Jewellery and Allied Industries Training Council, the WI and other adult groups.
Her commissions have included a 1:12 sized silver tea set (every item from tea-pot to sugar tongs to tea-cups and saucers) and copper pots and pans for a dolls’ house. Even more unusual, she has made a 1:12 sized garden gnome for a miniature greenhouse!
Janis regularly exhibits with the Herefordshire Guild of Craftsmen, Blue-Ginger Gallery in Cradley, the Station Gallery @ Hawthorn Designs, Bromyard, Arts Markets in Cheltenham, and Worcester Cathedral shop. More examples of her work can also be seen on her website.
Handmade Miniature Teddies
Janis is also an Associate member with her secondary craft.
She began collecting teddy bear many years ago. A keen needlewoman, she decided to try her hand at designing patterns for, and making, miniature teddy bears.
Her teddies are between 2” and 6” tall, made from various fabrics, but mostly mohair or plush and have onyx bead eyes and thread joints. She is influenced by traditional bears, particularly those made by Steiff, and delights in giving them individual expressions and characters, often with hand-made accessories.
I am happy to undertake commissions and make special occasion bears, for example: graduations and Christenings.
