After buying my first mirrorless camera, I embarked on a journey of real discovery and passion, learning as much as I could about the technical aspects of photography. I also experimented with different genres, enjoying in particular macro and urban/street. Over time I’ve photographed weddings, funerals, pets and much more. Although enjoyable, I felt something was missing; thankfully, I’ve finally found my niche in the world of creative photography.

Mainly I use two techniques to create my unique style of photography:  Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and Double Exposure.  ICM is an abstract style of shooting where the shutter speed and the speed of camera movement are the main factors which determine the finished result. I alternate shutter speeds, depending on what effect I’m looking for.  I also move my camera in various ways – from millimetre twitches to huge, sweeping gestures using the whole of my arm.

Double Exposure: This is a combination of two images or more, where one is placed on top of the other at less than full opacity, which adds more texture, colour and depth.   This is done with artistic intent either in-camera or at the post processing stage. My work can be atmospheric, experimental… or both!

I’m so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world such as Malvern and surrounding countryside. The forever changing colours of the hills, big skies and magical light; trees that are a brilliant source for natural structure, textures and colours, it’s all there, just waiting to be explored.

It also allows me to bend the rules and put away my tripod!

My style of photography allows me to be me and to express myself in whatever and however I choose to work at any given moment.  It allows me to live in the moment, when all internal noise and stresses dissipate; it’s just me, camera and subject.  I love what I do.

During 2023 I’m expanding my craft repertoire by learning how to picture frame to conservation level which, in turn, will allow me to have complete control over all my framing requirements.   I’ll also be offering bespoke creative photography days….  Exciting times!
